It’s Lit

The Burning of the M has been a long lasting tradition at MacArthur. Each year during homecoming week, students gather around the wooden M to celebrate their school spirit and enjoy one another.

Following the Burning of the M, I had the privileged to speak with two of the 2017 – 2018 Fire Truck Crew members to get their take on the night.

Bailey: So how do you feel right now?

Delaney Castor: About the burning of the M? Oh, it was a huge success. You know, everyone thought that it wasn’t going to burn because it rained all week. But you know, we made it happen. I’m so proud of this crew and everything that we’ve done. We came out here this week and last week, we wrapped it with the burlap, made sure it was soaked in kerosene, and made sure this could happen for our student body.

Bailey: Ok, so how does it feel to be a senior on Fire Truck Crew?

Delaney Castor: OMG, I’m so pumped. This has been one of my dreams since I was a freshman. I got here from a North Hills, a private school, and I had no idea what it was. But, I saw this group of people and I was like man I really wanna be a part of that. So I found out about it, and when I was a Junior I was really nervous but I tried out, and this group of people are like my best friends. I’d do anything for them.

Bailey: Tell me a little bit about your team chants and things tonight.

Brandon Flores:  So, the FTC, we try to make sure that our chants are related to what’s going on in the field and in the crowd. We want to make sure that whatever chant we say, everyone can hear what we are saying, and … make sure to get the crowd lit.
